Khunti Pujo, North Grande Celebration Committee, 4th Year, 6th September 2026

Khunti Pujo

Khunti Puja marks the ceremonial start of the Durga Puja season. The bamboo poles (khunti) that will form the pandal's structural frame are ceremonially worshipped — a tradition rooted in the older custom of Kathamo Puja, the worship of the wooden frame on which the clay idol is built. It's a symbolic inauguration of months of preparation ahead. This year's Khunti Puja is on 6th September 2026. Your contribution helps fund the rituals and arrangements.

Sarbojonin Shri Shri Durgotsov, North Grande Celebration Committee, 4th Year 2026

Durga Puja

Durga Puja celebrates Goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura — the triumph of good over evil — and welcomes her yearly homecoming. Celebrated over five days, the festival includes the idol's unveiling on Shashthi, the Nabapatrika ritual on Saptami, Sandhi Puja on Ashtami marking the goddess's fiercest form, grand celebrations on Navami, and Bijoya Dashami's emotional farewell before immersion. This year's Sarbojonin Shri Shri Durgotsov, 4th Year, runs 17–22 October 2026. Contribute towards pandal, idol, cultural programs and bhog arrangements.

Laxmi Puja

Kojagari Lakshmi Puja honours Goddess Lakshmi, deity of wealth and prosperity, on the full moon night of Kojagori Purnima, about a week after Durga Puja. "Kojagari" comes from "Ko Jagarti" — "who is awake?" — as it's believed the goddess visits homes at night and blesses those still awake. Homes are decorated with alpana motifs and earthen lamps are lit to welcome her. Your contribution helps fund the rituals and arrangements.

Kali Puja

Kali Puja, also called Shyama Puja, falls on the same new-moon night as Diwali. While much of India worships Lakshmi that night, Bengal worships Goddess Kali instead — the fierce embodiment of power, rooted in Tantric tradition. Rituals begin after dusk and continue through the sacred Nishita Kala around midnight, with mantras, lamps and offerings believed to remove fear and hardship. Your contribution helps fund the rituals and arrangements.
